Rock State Historic Site Announce the 26th Year of Spring Education
Field Trip Programs for 2010.
Let your students experience the Missouri frontier in Arrow Rock, a National Historic Landmark.
These age-appropriate programs meet the Missouri Content Standards for Social Studies.


“Family Life and School Days in the 1840’s” (for 1st & 2nd graders)
Visit the 1830s log school and George Caleb Bingham house.
“The Course of Nature Past to Present”
(for 3rd & 4th graders and/or 5th & 6th graders) Explore how the geography of the Missouri River impacted the development of Arrow Rock as a community. Will include tours of the 1838 Court House, 1868 Print Shop and Lodge Hall, 1840 Huston Store, and a nature walk to the bluff.
“From Arrows to Bullets”
(for 5th & 6th graders and/or 3rd & 4th graders)
Examine changes in the Arrow Rock area from stone technology to manufacturing a gun “lock, stock and barrel.” Will include hands-on flintknapping, Indian games and tours of the mid-1800s gunshop and gunsmith’s home.
Programs Presented Tuesday through Friday, April 13 - May 21, 2010.
Programs will be offered in the mornings Tuesday through Friday beginning at 9:00 a.m. and will be approximately 2 hours in length.
Registration Procedures
Registration is now open by calling 660-837-3330 or 1-800-334-6946 (ask to be transferred to Arrow Rock State Historic Site) between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Plan for a group of 50 students or less. (Ask about special arrangements to accommodate groups of 50 or more).
Registration will only be allowed for the program that is developed for your grade level (unless you are bringing more than 50 students and special arrangements have been made).
Please have the following ready:
• Program for your class level
• Date and alternate date
• Time of arrival
• Total number of students, teachers and parents
• Grade of your class
• Teacher’s name
• Address, phone number and email address of school
• Best time we can reach you
• Any special information about your class
Each program begins at the Arrow Rock State Historic Site Visitor Center and will be held rain or shine. Dress for walking and weather.
There is a fee of $4.00 for each student and for additional adults. One teacher per class is admitted free.
Please have total payment counted and ready upon arrival, including fee for additional adults. This helps us get programs started on time. Make checks payable to Friends of Arrow Rock. Purchase orders will be accepted.
You will receive a confirmation letter and map.
The Visitor Center also offers a 20-minute video about Arrow Rock. Check with the State Historic Site staff about viewing this following your regular program. It is not included in the scheduled portion of your visit.
